How to use
Ever wondered how to use one of these thingamajigs? It's wonderfully simple & super fast. Have a read of the below and keep scrolling for a quick video. Still got questions? Give us a shout.
This is how you brew it
1. Fill the lower water chamber with water, just up to the safety valve inside. It's important to never fully cover the safety valve with water, as this could prevent it from working if need be.
2. Rest the coffee basket on top of the lower water chamber, and fill with coffee that has been specially ground for stovetop use (about 2-3 heaped teaspoons). Never pack or press the coffee down, or try and wing it with a different type of grind, as this could prevent the water from being able to pass through to the upper chamber and pose a safety risk
3. Screw the upper chamber on, and place over medium heat. When you hear a gurgling or hissing sound, open the lid to see if the coffee has filled to the top of the chamber and when it has, remove from heat.
Enjoy! This dense and rich brew is invigorating on its own, or pairs beautifully with milk and cream.
NOTE: Stainless steel models are suitable for gas, electric, ceramic and induction stovetops. Aluminium models are only suitable for gas, electric and ceramic stovetops (not induction).
Safety Tips
Never cover the safety valve with water. The safety valve is there to release steam and pressure in the unlikely event that it needs to. If the valve is covered, it will not be able to do its job.
Only use coffee that has been specifically ground for stovetop. If you use coffee that ground too fine or too thick, it can block the lower chamber and pose a safety risk.
Make sure you wait until the Caffettiera is cool to touch before disassembling.
Always use the handle or top knob to pour or open the Caffettiera when it is hot.
A 6 cup Caffettiera should take between 5-6 minutes to brew. If the coffee has not filled to the top chamber after more than this time, empty your coffee basket and try again ensuring it is not over packed and you are using a stovetop grind.
